Diana Hallowes turns her gifted eye to the things that inhabit her life, creating a collection of deceptive simplicity.
"Colour, shape and form are always important to me," she says. "In this show I extend my exploration of natural forms to include simple things that inhabit my life ? bowls, teapots, fruit, food and travel memorabilia."
While she's looked for inspiration in new places, her preferred medium remains the same. The 30 pieces shown in ?Theme & Variation' are all watercolour, including three larger works on rice paper.
"Watercolour is still my chosen medium, because it is dynamic and has a will of its own," she says. "I like the subjects of my paintings to be recognisable, but I also like them to look painted, and that means blobs and brushstrokes."
